Lonmin plc is a producer of platinum group metals operating in the Bushveld Complex of South Africa. Its operational headquarters are in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Engagement with EITI

Lonmin Plc. is currently operating within countries that have not yet adopted or implemented the EITI process. Lonmin Plc. has exploration operations in South Africa, Canada, Northern Ireland and Kenya and mining operations in South Africa. 

Lonmin Plc. was previously involved in minor exploration activities in Tanzania and Gabon. Both Tanzania and Gabon are countries that implement the EITI process. With regard to the exploration activities in Tanzania, Lonmin Plc. has withdrawn from the joint venture in 2008 and 2009. With regard to the exploration activities in Gabon, Lonmin Plc. acquired these exploration licenses with a buyout of Southern Era (Pty) Ltd., however the exploration licenses expired in Feb 2010 and Jun 2011 and Lonmin did not renew the licenses. 

Currently, Lonmin Plc does not provide any contribution to the national EITI processes as we operate in countries that do not implement EITI at this stage.

Lonmin Plc. is a member of the ICMM and therefore supports the position state of Transparency of Mineral Revenues.

Lonmin Plc. provides input to the various initiatives of the ICMM supporting the EITI processes and transparency of Mineral Revenues.

Financial contribution to international management of the EITI

Lonmin Plc. is a member of the ICMM. ICMM makes a contribution to the international EITI on behalf of all of its members.
