Statement of support

Staatsolie, as one of the leading companies in our country, supports the Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (EITI) and is committed to encourage initiatives for transparency on the full extractive resources value chain and to fight against corruption.

Engagement with the EITI

Staatsolie was part of the first steering committee to set up a multi-stakeholder group (MSG) with extractive industry companies and civil society organizations in Suriname. The company also actively participated in the process led by the government of Suriname to become a candidate country as of 24 May 2017. Since then Staatsolie has been an active member of the MSG for the oil and gas company constituency in Suriname.

Strengthening transparency

Since Staatsolie’s establishment in 1980, the company has produced an audited annual report, including its payments to the government. Since 2007, Staatsolie has been publishing its annual report on its website. Staatsolie’s 2019 annual report is available here.

Recently, the company launched its Corporate Governance Code, which is a set of guidelines for good governance.
