To promote growth and reduce poverty, Directors emphasized that the medium-term policy agenda should include bold strategies to combat corruption-especially in the natural resources sector-privatize public enterprises, strengthen the judiciary, and reduce the regulatory burden on business.
EITI Chairman, Dr.Peter Eigen will meet Indonesian authorities and executives at Pertamina. He will also address the National Parliament. We foresee this visit will lead to a fruitful engagement of Indonesia with the EITI. Dr.Eigen will be earlier attending the Transparency International Annual Meeting in Bali.
For the following 9 countries, the Board has asked for additional information by the end of 2007 before a decision about their candidate status can be considered: Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Madagascar, Republic of Congo, Sao Tome and Principe, Sierra Leone, Trinidad and Tobago, and Timor-Leste.
