In 2013, the EITI Standard began encouraging countries to publicly disclose any contracts and licenses that provide the terms attached to the exploitation of oil, gas and minerals. Five years on, over half of EITI implementing countries disclose at least some contracts, and 18 major extractive companies have made statements supporting the practice in some form.

Board Decisions in response to the Covid-19 crisis
This document is a model Terms of Reference (TOR) for EITI reporting, in accordance with the EITI Board’s decision on 25 May to allow more flexibility in recognition of the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Through this Board decision, the EITI introduced flexible measures for EITI Reports published in 2020, where data collection and dissemination is feasible without posing health risks and subject to MSG endorsement. The TORs set out the work to be undertaken by the MSG and the national secretariat.
The transition to a sustainable, decarbonised economy is now reshaping the extractive industries. It will have profound implications for the kinds of data, disclosures and dialogues that will be required to support accountability and good governance. Transparency is also central to international efforts to support the energy transition, including the reporting of emissions and the disclosure of climate risks.
